Contemporary LEGO is predominantly comprised of “kits” related to particular themes, e.g. Star Wars, but it’s not the only company that has gone this way. Companies like Meccano, who once delivered creative building sets have also moved to the “model” system. One of the few hold-outs in this realm is the Swiss company Stokys.
They still produce cumulative building sets, starting from set 00. Consider the following picture of a bulldozer.

Building it requires an interpretation of the original picture, no parts list, or multi-view drawings are given. It requires imagination to fill in the blanks.
